2025 Goals (??????)

What do I want my internet experience to be in 2025?

I’m expecting some pretty big changes in the Year of Our Lord 2025, and I’m due for a reset when it comes to what I want from the internet. This is a ~living document~ and might be updated over time.

Who/what inspires me?

• Discovering new music from people I like/trust
• People on my blogroll
• What other people around me and online are Discovering
• Stumbling across new websites

What do I want to see or do more of?

• Direct access to and engagement with feeds of content stuff I like online (eg. get the RSS feed reader app back up and running)
• Read more books (fiction, academic, non-fiction, poetry (maybe?))
• Read more blogs
• Read seminal texts in my research fields
  • Internet culture
  • Cultural policy
  • Musicology/Ethnomusicology
  • Indigenous studies
  • Conservation, heritage and preservation
  • Political and economic theory
  • Librarianship and metadata
• Make my website more of a personalised expression of myself
  • Some kind of ticker/marquee displaying Last.fm data a la Spencer
  • Data visualisation of some kind??
• Build up the digital garden and improve cataloguing/tagging systems
• Develop more syllabi (e.g. Linked Data syllabus, Digital musicology syllabus, The Internet Sucks Now Syllabus)
• Develop more guides in general (Places to eat in Melbourne)
• Creating more (meta)data about the collections I currently hold (mostly books and music)
• Automating processes that efficiently curate and collecting things/websites I find interesting
  • Some kind of email address that acts as a concierge and does things to the stuff I email it?
• Writing by hand (and improve my handwriting lol)

What do I want less of?

• Instagram scrolling
• The same music over and over again
• Unnecessary emails
• A dispersed, uncontrolled digital footprint

What do I want to learn?

• More Python
• Intro to Ruby (for garden-building purposes)
• More on linked data and information management/design
• More hands-on GIS
• Basic music production and/or composition
• Basic fashion and design
• Rust???

Other things

• Would love to contribute financially and conversationally to more creatives online
• I should probably do something with Arena
